archer of the month

John Strand

This month we’re proud to highlight John Strand, a passionate leader in Wisconsin’s archery community and the owner of Elmwood Archery in Pewaukee.

John has been involved in archery for over 40 years, first picking up a bow around the age of eight. After serving five years in the Navy, his uncle Andy introduced him to archery deer hunting, which sparked a lifelong pursuit of improving both in the woods and on the range. Over the years, John has competed in tournament archery for more than 35 years, winning multiple Wisconsin State indoor and outdoor championships as well as an Outdoor Target National Championship.

Today, John continues to give back to the sport in a big way. As a USA Archery Level 2 Instructor/Trainer for about eight years, he has coached archers of all ages, including a JOAD team that produced a National Champion, and has worked with youth at Sherwood as well.

Six years ago he took over Elmwood Archery and ran the shop out of his basement, and the shop has since grown into its current location in Pewaukee, where he continues helping archers improve their skills and enjoy the sport.

Thank you, John, for everything you do to grow archery in Wisconsin.
